THE EQUITABLE ACCESS LICENSE (EAL) In cooperation with the top international experts in intellectual property law, access to medicines, and technology transfer, UAEM has created a unique contract that universities can adopt into their technology transfer policies in order to maintain or even improve biomedical research and development while increasing access to public health innovations in poor countries, even when university-based research is conducted at a very early stage in the development pipeline.
The contract is known as the 'equitable access license', or EAL. The EAL contains extensive legal language, but the mechanism and utility of the license are explained in detail within the license and in its accompanying document. Students who are interested in the EAL and how their university might make use of the contract should contact us to find out more information, and should read through our student manual on the EAL.
